    I use the Pencil Tool sometimes when I want to isolate an object, usually ornamentals or b&w clip art. I will close any gaps in the outline of the object with the pencil tool. Using the Color Range feature, I knock out all the white/backing, leaving only the black outline. Then, if I want to color the object by filling its area with the fill tool, no paint ‘escapes’. Other than that, I didn’t know what to use it for!
