Transform your Selections

Adobe gives Photoshop and Photoshop Elements users multiple selection tools. Among others are the Lasso, Polygonal Lasso, and Magnetic Lasso, Quick Selection, and Magic Wand tools.

Drawing  out a selection using these tools is usually easy enough, but sometimes selections can be tricky, or we might need to make an adjustment after the selection is made.  Sometimes we just deselect and start over again.  Or we can try using the add-to or subtract-from options in the top menu bar. But there’s also another way to help perfect our selections, and that is by using the Transform Selection tool.

In this image I have done a sloppy job of selecting my butterfly. The left tip of his wing is just slightly cut off, and the lower part of both wings are not included in the selection.

To adjust this selection: Go to the top menu bar: Select > Transform Selection.  Transform handles are placed around the selection. We can change the shape of the selection by clicking on the handles and dragging them in the direction we want them to go.

If we right-click inside the selection, we will also have access to the other selection options, in case we need them.

I hope the Transform Selection tool comes in handy for you! Sometimes adjusting, rather than starting all over again is really helpful.
