Do you like Chipboard? New Styles & a Freebie!

June 17, 2015

I really love the look that Chipboard  embellishments can give a layout.  They can add interest, depth, and dimension!

I was browsing Pinterest and found this adorable product by Scrapping Art (on Etsy) :

I decided to try to replicate these digitally using my Chipboard Overlay Styles.

First I needed a butterfly shape.  I used one of the butterfly shapes in Photoshop by choosing the Custom Shape Tool in the Tool Bar on the left, then clicking on the down-pointing arrow in the Shape Option in the Top Menu Bar > Load Shapes > Animals. I chose “Append” to add the animal shapes to the shapes I already have loaded.

Next I opened one of my Music Scores and clipped it to the shape.

I right-clicked on the Music-Score layer and chose Merge Down, to merge the music sheet with the shape. Then I clicked on Chipboard Overlay Style #6 to create this Chipboard Effect:

I went back to the Custom Shape Tool in Photoshop and dragged out a flower shape, then clipped a By Design Paper to it (altering the color of the paper to create this pretty pink).  I added Vintage Button 3 from Set 3, and this is the result:

Below is the flower without the chipboard effect.  It’s a very subtle effect, but I think it makes a big difference!

If you don’t want your butterfly, or other embellishments  to be patterned, but prefer the clean look of chipboard, the Chipboard Styles will give you this effect.

Use either the Chipboard and the Chipboard Overlays Styles to add dimension to your layouts the next time an embellishment needs just a little extra something! (These styles work beautifully on thick text too!)
