Including Yourself on your Scrapbook Pages
Until selfies came along there was always someone missing from the photo. The photographer and storyteller are often the same person when it comes to scrapbooking. Is this YOU? Are you missing from your scrapbook pages?
My son’s family lives about 3 hours away from us. We go visit them every 3 weeks, for the weekend. I love offering a time of respite for my son and daughter-in-law when they can sleep longer in the morning, run errands, go out on a date, or even take a nap in the afternoon if they want. I take care of Owen and Ella and love having that special time with them. But they are 2 years old and 4 years old, so I am super busy, constantly. I will snap photos of them quickly, with my cell phone, but rarely am I in any photos with them.
I realized that, as they get older, they won’t remember the time that I spent with them at this age. And there are no pictures to actually prove I was there! So I created a book for Owen, chronicling our weekend adventures throughout the year. I journaled from his point of view, but it’s still my voice. When he reads this book he will be able to “see” me through our activities.

I wanted to keep the pages simple, focusing on the journaling. I used a premade cluster from Strawberry Lemonade as an accent.
This project inspired me to create a Collection, which would provide all I would need to tell a story. I really wanted to inspire YOU to journal about yourself more than you might already do. I want to inspire YOU to show up in more photos and tell your own story. Believe me, I’m talking to myself here too.
My latest collection, “This is Me,” was the result of these cumulative thoughts. It was designed to help you easily capture your everyday moments like enjoying a cup of coffee, reading a cherished novel, or documenting your story in a favorite journal, or even create books for your grandchildren about your mutual activities. “This is Me” is filled with flowers and greenery for beautiful clusters, old cameras, and bits and pieces with an antique flair.

Oh, I love your layout, Karen … journaling it from Owen’s viewpoint is a wonderful idea. Like you, I am in hardly any of the photos as I was the one taking them. I wish I had done this when my GD was little as we saw her several times a week. Unfortunately, I don’t remember a lot of those “stories”. If I have another grandchild, I will have to remember to write down those memories. Your new collection is beautiful! Adding it to my wish list (I’m still recovering from the holiday spending!)

Oh Karen, this is an awesome idea! Makes me wonder why I never thought of this before. My youngest granddaughter is 5 and I have so many fun experiences with her. It will be a stretch to get some of the older “funnies” but I’d love to try. Thank you so much. “This is Me”, is lovely!
