It’s Magic!

I spent last weekend with our son and his family. Owen, who just turned 4 a few months ago, continues to make me laugh the entire time I am visiting.  I could tell you tales for hours, but one of my favorites from this weekend is this:

The kids have a big playroom that is right off the kitchen.  Brian and Melissa were putting together a bunk bed for Owen, so my job was to keep Owen and Ella (2 years old) occupied.  We put up a sheet on some chairs and boxes to make an “invisible shield” so no one would see us – which, of course, Owen thought was the-best-thing-ever.

I took a picture of the “invisible shield” without Owen in front of it (without Owen’s knowledge) and then took one with him in front of it.  I showed him the picture of the shield without him in front of it.  His mouth dropped open and his eyes grew wide with astonishment, as he exclaimed, “IT REALLY WORKS.”

Yes, I know it was a little trick – but part of the fun of being a Grandma is making your grandchild think you are amazing. 🙂

What do YOU do to entertain your grandchildren? I’m always looking for new ideas!

It’s magic!

  1. That is adorable! Owne is just precious. I had company Fri – Mon and I had a 4 yr old too! He was a cat (mimicing Heidi) and would bring me toys and I would throw them and he would chase them. We also went and picked pinecones from OHIO. He is from New York. I had a blast and brought back wonderful memories of my grandson Danny at that age. I would give Danny a bath and give him an umbrella and I’d run the shower. He loved it! It’s wonderful when you are the greatest person in the world to them! Enjoy it!

You are a fun Grandma! I’m going to have to try to remember that one.

That is too cute. Emma has a PlaySchool car that she likes to have me push around (of course with her in it). One day I took a couple of kind size pillowcases that were lying around and threw them over the top which enclosed the whole car. I would grab an end pick it up and yell “peek-a-boo”. Let me tell you the laughter from her was so infectious I was laughing hysterically myself. (She’s 2-1/2 and still loves “peek-a-boo”) Yes, they can keep you laughing all the time.

Oh, yes1 I can just hear the laughter you describe. The absolutely JOY the little ones have at the slighted things just brings joy to US, doesn’t it? Thanks for sharing!
