Before I show you the layouts, I want to be sure you don’t miss the tutorials Karen has previously provided on the blog: Making Your Own Snowflakes and Doilies, How to Recolor Irish Lace Styles in Photoshop, and How to Recolor Irish Lace Styles in Photoshop Elements. Also, in case you missed it, there is a beautiful freebie found at the end of the first blog post above, and I will add it again here. Simply click the image to download it.
I really love any product that can be used to stretch my stash, and this style set definitely fits the bill.
I like the large blended photo used as the background in Christmas Smile by franlk. Combining it with the smaller, framed photo is a great design technique. The Irish lace border really pops against the darker background of the blend. I see she also tucked an Irish lace doily behind her beautifully shadowed cluster. She used the fabulous new Christmas collection from SnickerdoodleDesigns, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” which works so well with the girl’s red jacket.
Here’s another dreamy layout from franlk, Let Your Heart Sing. She also used Joyful Noise Collection by SnickerdoodleDesigns. I really like the way she added the lace on top of the cluster instead of underneath. Keeping the majority of her vertical design close to the edge of the page is another great technique. I love the darling photo and the way the frame is place at an angle. Finally, the music staff in black, contrasts perfectly with her soft, pastel palette.
I love the blocked design in Merry Christmas by ChrissyC. She used a template by Kimeric Kreation’s and SnickerdoodleDesigns’ “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”. The Irish lace border looks lovely against the gray, snowy background. The vertical cluster down one side balances perfectly with the word tabs directly across. I love the way she used the word Joy as her title. Perching the little bird atop the flag is a great added touch.
Here’s another layout from ChrissyC, entitled Joy. She chose the same collection by SnickerdoodleDesigns I’ll Be Home for Christmas so the layout both coordinates yet looks quite different from the layout above. This time she added the Irish lace as a page border. The cluster is horizontal and compliments the stacked papers perfectly. Combining Joy with the small Christmas pillow and the tiny bird is very creative title work. The glitter bordering and scattered about gives an overall festive look to her page.
If you love the lace borders shown in these layouts as much as I do, take heart! Although they have been retired, Karen has agreed to re-release them, so they will be in stores soon!
I’ve come to the end of my post and I’d like to take this opportunity to say happy holidays no matter which you celebrate. I hope you find some time to scrap in the upcoming weeks.
