A Simple Pleasure; A Big Disappointment

I am baring my soul here.  Showing you how easily disappointed I can be in certain small things. But when you are so looking forward to something you rarely have and there is something “wrong” with it…. it’s just disappointing.

Kellogg’s Pop Tarts. The Brown Sugar Cinnamon ones. Toasted. Yum!

I stopped buying this product years ago when I actually read the Nutrition Facts on the package one day. One pack of 2 little pastries that can easily be eaten in just 5 minutes contains 420 calories, 30 grams of sugar, and 14 grams of fat. But every time I pass a box of these goodies on the grocery store shelf, I can almost taste the toasted cinnamon and sugar and hurry on by so I don’t fall into the temptation of picking up a box.  Without children at home to help eat these now, I would be the only one gobbling them up…. and that wouldn’t be good.

So imagine my absolute delight and surprise when I was at the store yesterday and saw that our kind grocery store manager had opened up several boxes and was selling them individually. Just one pack. I could buy just one pack!!!  And I did!

I planned it all out.  Since each pack contains 2 pastries, I could eat one pastry one day and the 2nd the next day and feel okay about it. Knowing there were not anymore hidden in my cupboards would help me too.

I carefully transported my “treat” home from the grocery store and all afternoon looked forward to having it after dinner. As I said… simple pleasures.

But when I was ready to enjoy my treat and opened the pack I saw crumbles and a broken pastry. So broken it couldn’t be put in the toaster. I won’t say I was “devastated,” but I was pretty disappointed…. very disappointed actually.

I had no choice, but rest assured that a microwaved Pop Tart is NOT the same as a toasted Pop Tart.

I might just need to go back to the store tomorrow and pick up another pack. But if I do, you can be sure I will very carefully feel the pack to be sure the pastries are fully intact.

Have you had a similar experience? What treat would cause you to have a disappointment like this?

Or is it just me???

  3. I love the little round cinnamon sugar donuts Walmart sells in it’s bakery. Sometimes, they have to change the date on the package because when I buy them and they are stale with a current sell by date, like you, I’m devastated. I haven’t bought them in months because I have lost 30 lbs since July and I’m afraid to! 🙁

Now why didn’t I think of that? All I thought was… sure wish I haven’t tossed out my toaster oven!
