What is Your Word for the Year?
What’s Your Word for the Year?
The practice of choosing a single word to guide the year likely draws inspiration from a variety of personal development and spiritual traditions. Still, it gained significant traction in recent years through books, workshops, and online communities promoting intentional living.
As we step into a new year, I’ve been reflecting on the power of choosing a single word to guide my intentions. Unlike a resolution, which is often very specific, “a word” is more broad in nature. It’s a reminder of who I want to be and what I hope to cultivate.
My craft room is so crowded that I can hardly walk around in it. Seriously, if I want to work on a project, I have to move it into the kitchen or outside to have room to do so. That isn’t always an ideal situation.
So I’ve been thinking my “one word” for 2025 should be “just one thing”…..just do one thing per day in my craft room with the end goal of being able to once again not only walk but also work in that room.
The problem I have is that my “one word” is actually three words. No matter how hard I try, I can’t distill them into one word, other than “focus,” and that is just too general for my intention. So, I think I’m just going to squish it into: JUSTONETHING.
I know there will be days when all I will do is close a cupboard door and call it “just one thing.” But there might be other days when I will spend hours in there rearranging my paints in my paint cabinet or some other such activity. It’s not about perfection but about progress and consistency.
What about you? Have you chosen a word to shape your year? If so, I’d love to hear it. Let’s inspire each other to step forward with purpose and possibility.

I LOVE your one word!! I just might have to “scraplift” the word for myself!! My craft room could challenge yours for which is the messiest room.
Please do! We should become accountability partners! But first… you simply must share a picture! 🙂
